01

BEFORE YOUR CONSULTATION

Adult hernia ↗

An inguinal hernia occurs when bowel or fatty tissue protrudes through a weakened area of the abdominal wall into the groin. Damsoyu Hospital assesses the area by examination, with ultrasound when needed, and performs laparoscopic repair. In adult men, the hospital commonly reinforces the repair with mesh after closing the hernia opening.

02

BEFORE YOUR CONSULTATION

Pediatric hernia ↗

In children, an inguinal hernia usually involves a passage formed before birth that has remained open, allowing tissue to protrude toward the groin. Damsoyu uses examination and ultrasound, then laparoscopic surgery to identify and close the opening. A recurrent bulge still needs assessment even if it appears only with crying or straining and causes no obvious pain.

03

BEFORE YOUR CONSULTATION

Gallbladder care ↗

Gallstones are hardened deposits formed from bile; cholecystitis is inflammation of the gallbladder. Damsoyu assesses these conditions with blood tests and ultrasound, adding CT when needed. For gallbladder disease requiring surgery, the hospital performs gallbladder removal (cholecystectomy) using single-incision laparoscopic surgery through the navel.

04

BEFORE YOUR CONSULTATION

Gynecomastia ↗

Gynecomastia involves the development of glandular breast tissue in men and differs from enlargement caused by fat alone. Surgery for gynecomastia is also known as male breast reduction. Damsoyu primarily uses ultrasound to assess the tissue, with mammography when needed. Removal of glandular breast tissue and liposuction address different tissues. The surgeon assesses what is needed for each.

05

BEFORE YOUR CONSULTATION

Accessory breast tissue ↗

Accessory breast tissue is breast tissue outside the usual breast area. In the underarm, it is often called axillary breast tissue and needs to be distinguished from underarm fat. Damsoyu uses ultrasound or mammography to identify glandular tissue. Surgery involves removing the accessory glandular tissue and planning liposuction of the surrounding fat.

UNDERSTANDING COSTS

Start with what the estimate includes.

Use this checklist to ask what applies to your care. Items are not necessarily required or included in an estimate.

Items to clarify in a surgical estimate
ItemWhat it coversWhat to clarify
Consultation and testsAssessment and preparation of a care plan. Can existing reports be used? Are further tests planned?
Surgery, anesthesia and materialsCosts for the proposed surgery, anesthesia and materials. Are anesthesia and materials included?
Hospital stay and monitoringMonitoring before and after surgery, and time spent in hospital.Which costs change with the length of stay or choice of room?

Check payment and insurance separately

Ask the hospital how your care will be billed. Ask your insurer whether the proposed treatment abroad is covered, whether prior approval is needed and which documents to keep. Check any Korean health insurance eligibility separately if it is relevant to you.

The official fee schedule lists individual items such as rooms, tests, materials and certificates. A personal surgical estimate depends on the treatment plan and insurance eligibility.

PREPARING FOR CARE

Three things to prepare before your visit.

Preparing to visit Korea →
01 / YOUR RECORDS

What care have you already received?

Gather available diagnoses, reports, previous operation details, medicines and allergies. Ask which records are needed and how to share them.

02 / YOUR APPOINTMENT

How will the consultation work?

Let the hospital know your preferred language, proposed dates and whether someone will accompany you. Confirm communication and appointment details before planning the trip.

03 / RECOVERY AND TRAVEL

What needs to happen before you go home?

Ask separately about discharge, follow-up and travel. Describe your work and exercise, and whether you will need to carry luggage, when discussing your timetable.

FAQ

Before you get in touch

Which procedures does this guide cover?

The guide covers adult and pediatric hernia, gallbladder and gallstone care, gynecomastia and accessory breast surgery. It explains laparoscopic hernia repair, single-incision gallbladder surgery, and assessment of glandular tissue and fat for breast-related procedures.

Can consultation, surgery and discharge happen in one day?

Damsoyu offers same-day consultation, surgery and discharge, but its website states that discharge depends on the patient’s condition. The gallbladder FAQ generally describes discharge the day after surgery. Confirm the admission plan for your procedure before arranging travel.

Where can I find costs and insurance information?

The hospital’s fee schedule lists items not covered by Korean health insurance, including room charges, tests and materials. A personal total depends on the treatment plan and insurance eligibility. The hospital FAQ advises checking private insurance coverage separately with the insurer.

Can I bring test results from another hospital?

Damsoyu’s FAQ says patients can bring referral information, ultrasound and CT results from another hospital. Tell the booking team what records you have and when the tests were performed. If same-day surgery is planned, obtain fasting and medication instructions in advance.
